One of the most gratifying moments of being a developer is seeing the before and after results in our apartments. Whether you’re a developer or doing some remodeling at your own home, take some tips from me on how to transform your space into a cozy and inviting new area.
STAGING
A simple way we can transform a new white box construction is with staging. By adding a few details, we can make a space feel more liveable and less sterile. One good way to accomplish this is by painting a single focus or accent wall in an eye-catching color. You will see a dramatic change by painting a ceiling or an entire bathroom. A carefully chosen accent color can really make your space POP!
Today, we only use plank or tile flooring – gone are the days of carpeting! However, we really like cowhide or zebra print area rugs to give the room depth and texture. These too are fun ways to add color.
We like to provide a variety of light fixtures in our apartments. You can transform a space by choosing a hanging fixture, a drum shade or track lighting.
Kitchens and bathrooms look best uncluttered with simple canisters, a bowl of fruit or even a plant.
Lastly, any good design is not complete without a few accents: a few pillows, a throw blanket, a picture frame, a candy dish or a small basket under an entry way table is the perfect accessory to store goodies. These thoughtful ideas are simple and elegant ways to make a space feel welcoming.
RENOVATION
Especially during kitchen and bath renovations, we most likely have to strip out flooring and closets and then replace.
We also like to add light fixtures, window blinds, and maybe a modular desk. But we can’t forget the most important feature in any home – the washer and dryer.
Don’t forget the cozy details like coat hooks, key hooks, and landscaping pots.
