Austin, Texas

If you ever have the chance to visit Austin, do it. And now is the time! Over the past few years, Austin has become a major travel destination. The city has exploded into a vibrant, youthful, safe and beautiful city.

EAT

Barbecue, Barbeque and more BBQ. In Austin, barbecue is a food group and is taken to an art form-like level. There is no shortage of barbecue joints that have popped up all over the area in the past few years. To name a few: Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, just southwest of Austin, is my family’s favorite! If you don’t have time to make the drive, you can get your fix at the airport to take home or enjoy as a post-trip treat. Franklin Barbecue is another Austin favorite…it always comes with a long line so go early!

If you’ve never had breakfast tacos, do yourself a favor and visit Tacodeli or Veracruz All Natural.

For the sweet tooth, Gigi’s Cupcakes and Voodoo Doughnuts are wonderful- and don’t forget the delicious French macaroons at Elizabeth Street Cafe! If you’re looking for a cold one and a cool atmosphere, South Austin Brewery and Cedar Street Courtyard will deliver.

SHOP

Shopping and hotels at The Domain offer something for everyone. From Neiman Marcus and Madewell to the home of Austin’s famous Kendra Scott Jewelry. Along with the plethora of chain stores, Austin is known for its local artists and designers. There are literally hundreds of independently-owned boutiques, vintage and thrift stores.

MUSIC

Discover why Austin is the live music capital of the world! South by Southwest and Austin City Limits has made Austin’s music scene famous. The events bring in thousands of music fans across the country. If you’re not there during festival time, you can always break out your cowboy boots at Broken Spoke for a fun night of music and two-steppin’. Whenever you happen to be in Austin, rest assured you’ll find live music every single night of the week.
